Song a Week 2021: Week 48 I am a child of the 1960s. Just finished watching Peter Jackson’s edit of The Beatles ‘Get Back’ in its entirety. Thought I’d try to write a song ‘in the style of’. Turned out sort of 1963 era pop rock.

Song a Week 2021: Week 47 This song is a hybrid created by weaving together different stimuli. I started with the chord sequence which leads with Am on the verse and F# on the chorus. Hence, the intended pun in the title. Having set up the title I then added a dollop of Jane Austen and a memory of the joy of reading books in bed, late Sunday morning, when I was a boy.

Song a Week 2021: Week 46 Antidisestablishmentarianism is the resistance to disestablishmentarianism, the 19th century movement to remove the Church of England as the official State religion. The relationship between the Church and State in England has a long history. It persists to this day through the establishment: the monarch; parliament and the church.

Song a Week 2021: Week 45 Escaping from the shadowland, fleeing with the wind, emerging from the darkness where the pathway home begins. A song about flight from oppression, conflict and poverty.

Song a Week 2021: Week 44 A short song about love, leaving and loss.

Song a Week 2021: Week 43 This started out as a song about dreams and disappointment but turned into a climate change protest song. Tried to keep it dream like.

Song a Week 2021: Week 42 Close to his death Sir Isaac Newton was humble. He said, “I don’t know what I may seem to the world. But as to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore and diverting myself now and then in finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than the ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.”

Song a Week 2021: Week 40 – October 9th 2021 – Life is better if we manage to keep expectations of our highs and the despair of our lows in control.
