Song a Week 2023 # 23: This song was originally written and recorded in 2019. As I had a difficult week, health wise, I revisited this song instead of writing something new. I recorded a stripped back version with just piano. Pretty much as I would have composed it. I then remastered the original to try and improve the sound. Here are both versions with a new lyric video.

A story about a woman who slides into unfulfilling and unsuccessful relationships by tumbling ‘head over heels’. I tried to get a bit of a latin feel to the song to mirror the trip to Spain described therein. One day I might redo the vocals, which I never got quite right.

This song is about hope and despair. I have tried to record a version with more power and grandeur. So, as much a learning exercise in performance and recording as it was in songwriting.

I watched a TV documentary about America’s conspiracy theorists and right wing fanatics . Algorythms on the Web work to reinforce prejudice and misinformation by constantly redirecting people to more of the same. A propagandists dream…..

I read a BBC news article about a young disabled man. “Robert and Trude mourned what they thought had been a lonely and isolated life for their disabled son. But when Mats died, they discovered that people all over Europe lit candles in his memory.”

I asked Joe, a friend who is also a semi-pro musician, how you could make money out of songwriting. He said, “Write a Christmas hit.” It was August but I had a crack at it. It is about the office party.
