Song a Week 2022 – Week 5: Afterthought is that voice in the head that sows self-doubt and drives bad decisions. Created by our past experience it lurks in the sub-conscious like and echo. All our thoughts are passed through this emotive filter, shaping our reaction to events in our present and creating our personal reality.

Song a Week 2022 – Week 4: Inspired by a news item reporting that the super rich just got richer during the crisis of the Covid pandemic and song of the week prompt ‘We Win’, I got to thinking about all the ways wealth gets concentrated.

Song a Week 2022 – Week 3: If you watch and listen enough you will dig up the dirt. Responding to a song prompt of ‘Standing in a Doorway’ and an observation on Boris Johnson, by a member of his own party , “Boris just says what he needs to say, to get him through the day.”

Song a Week 2021: Week 52 I am intrigued by the space between history and myth. This piece consists of four songs (and a reprise) that explore the Great North Road in the UK. The road has meandered its way north between London and Edinburgh since before Roman times. Like a river it has taken different routes and has more recently been tamed by modern road building.

Song a Week 2021: Week 50 I have been reading The Spy and the Traitor by Ben Macintyre and this song has been inspired by that book.

Song a Week 2021: Week 50 Happy Christmas!

‘The Fairy on Top of the Tree’ is here. On the one hand this is a pantomime song and meant to be comedic. It was written about a grumpy, Christmas fairy who suffers with vertigo. However, the humour is deliberately dark and the lyrics comment on people fulfilling roles that they are not comfortable with and those at the top of the tree who know they might fall. ……….
