Never Trust a King
Song a Week 2023 – Week 10 We were challenged to write a song with the prompt “Oh no! It’s the Plantagenets”. So here is a history song. It’s a bit long but it is a full appraisal of the kings from Henry II to Richard II. A horrible history of the Plantagenets. I tried some orchestration on this one. Never trust a king…………
The Space Between Us
Song a Week 2023 – Week 9 :Having written a song a week for 100 weeks I am resting up this week and delivering a cover version of Little Lore’s song The Space Between Us. I have re-imagined it as a pop song. Tricia submitted this to SaW on Feb 5th.
We Listened to Pirates
Song a Week 2023 – Week 8 :100 Songs in 100 Weeks – NUMBER 100! In the early 1960s the BBC had a monopoly on radio broadcasting in the UK mainland. In order to meet demand for continuous pop music pirate radio stations were operated from ships in the North Sea. One of these was Radio Caroline.
The Curse
Song a Week 2023 – Week 7:This is the 99th song for my song a week challenge. I’ve gone gently progressive on this one. In The Curse, victims condemn their evil oppressor to an eternity of reflection on the bad things he has done.
This Old Town
Song a Week 2023 – Week 6: I was thinking about ‘Ghost Town’ by The Specials and also families that are bereaved through murder. I fused the two ideas. The repeating guitar riff and bass laid over the drum track built the foundation and the synth line the atmosphere.
Accelerate:
Accelerate: living in a dystopian utopia is a collection of my rock songs written and recorded during 2022 and January 2023. Mostly about bad stuff but curiously up-tempo (because bad stuff happens in a world which is getting better).
The Acceleration of Everything
Song a Week 2023 – Week 5: The title and theme of this song, ‘hurry sickness’, is borrowed from James Gleick’s book ‘Faster: The Acceleration of Just About Everything” with its proposition that in the technological world we are filling our days to a point that we have no time for basic human activities.
The Song of the Sea
Song a Week 2023 – Week 4: A tale of love and self-doubt. Recorded with Peter O’Hare on guitar, shared at a Talent is Timeless songwriter’s circle and performed at the Smile Bar and Venue Live Lounge all within three days.
A Country with No Name
Song a Week 2023 – Week 3: Something simple and bluesy this week. Performed live to camera. A perspective on attitudes to refugees. Song 95 of my 100 songs in 100 weeks challenge.
